Simon Whistler and his team of fact deliverers are more entertaining than a night of psychedelic drugs and far more cost-effective. Unlike psychedelic drugs however, the feel-good effects of Decoding The Unknown are longer-lasting and are less likely to make you jump off a bridge because you...Read full review »

Very fun, with Simon usual dry humor, and being true to his opinion but some of the subjects - like « Big Farma » border on disrespectful for millions of families suffering from the tragedy of having a love one sick, or the « Johnston CIA conspiracy ». Some of those conspiracy are inherently...Read full review »

Subject matter has potential but presenter's delivery is manic and self indulgent. Takes ages to get to subject matter. Waffling on with intrusive background music.Read full review »

Always fascinating and entertaining! I love the semi-dialogues that Simon has with his different writers, and how I can often tell who has written a particular script based off of the subject or the writing style. Hey Kevin, maybe you should do a “True or False?”-style script in conjunction with...Read full review »

This show, like all of the media that Mr Whistler brings us is incredibly well written. The various script writers obviously put a lot of effort into their research, as well as their scripting, and whilst I will occasionally slightly disagree with a theory or conclusion I’ve not once caught them...Read full review »

Simon used to be a very compelling narrator but he’s now insufferable. Constantly attempting a bizarre standup routine that’s painfully unfunny, except to him. Scoffing and wheezing at his own attempts at humour and frequently swearing in an attempt to come across as edgy. I’m embarrassed for him.

Great listening…highly entertaining 😆

Loves the sound of his own voice and spends most of the episode aimlessly rambling about whatever thoughts are going through his head at the time. Also gets lots of facts wrong.

Can one of Simons amazing writers give us another episode on The Presidents and their families and their messes. There is still all kinds of info to share and would love to hear Simons comments on all of it!!

I love the way he trashes Christianity. These Christian crybaby’s can’t take criticism and need to learn to take it. Keep it up. However I do think his levels need to be adjusted. I can barely listen to him in a semi noisy environment because he’s too low and then the ads come on and it’s...Read full review »

I haven’t gotten past the first 10 mins of the episode but I do know that the shift wouldn’t be cataclysmic it would take thousands of years from start to finish. Please adjust your gain, it’s way lower than the ads and when the ads come on I am deafened. Other than that, Simon is legend. A legend that has now made me deaf, taking off 1 star per ear.

This show is very informative and usually generally entertaining. I’m not usually one to bother about people downing organized religion but it seems that Simon is overly disgusting towards Christianity. Simon, I LOVE the content of this show. Can’t get enough of it. But lately your voice is super low and the background music is louder, and the ads are even louder. Please fix the mixing on this.

This podcast is amazing! Simon and his team of writers are endlessly entertaining … i could keep going but why are you reading this?!! Go listen to ANY of his podcasts, you won’t be disappointed. To paraphrase Christopher Wallace: If you didn’t know, now you know … follow Simon ASAP

Long time listener but lately the audio mixing has been borderline unlistenable! Far too loud and chimey music and simons voice is too quiet to hear. You have to drive up the volume which really makes the music deafening

Does this show even have an editor or audio engineer? The show has always been much quieter than all other semi-professional media, but this episode’s random polka music that completely obscures the monologue is really quite embarrassing.

I love this show, when I can hear it. Lately the back ground music has been louder than Simon so I can’t listen to the content. Very frustrating as I enjoy this show a lot. I enjoy the tangents and the mysteries.
Betsy Sybil via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/05/23
The background music is frequently so loud it makes Simon hard to understand and is uncomfortable to listen to via headphones. The writing, delivery, and show in general are great, but the volume of the music is so high it’s annoying to the point where it’s impossible to listen to.

The format of Decoding the Unknown (along with its sister podcast The Casual Criminalist) is a breath of fresh air. The presenter reads the script for the first time live as a cold read, which allows for him to experience the episode content along with the listener at the same time. Simon I doubt you will see this but if you do please make the volume louder. I have it set to full volume and I can barely hear you part of the time. Casual Criminalist is the same way. The chiming background music is the most annoying/ frustrating thing that makes my ears ring. Why is it so loud that I can barely hear Simon speak. Casual criminalist has way better audio effects.
