The courage to speak out
Mike Wilner’s voice is irreplaceable on the Toronto sports scene. Speaking out with courage is often (always) fraught with the peril of closed or angry minds. I applaud Mike for speaking plainly, truthfully, about the prerogative of sports teams like the Blue Jays to support vulnerable people in our city and society on the whole. MLB players are incredibly privileged to play their sport, and Blue Jays players specifically will understand the role they can play in our beautiful and diverse community. Let’s hope this will sink in to players that don’t yet see clearly how they can be positive role models for everyone in our city.
