I’ve been listening to Desert Island Discs since birth and after 35 years on this planet I am yet to discover elsewhere a more perfect format for revealing the layers of the human mind. Long may it last. Question: why do you never hear this format copied elsewhere - does the BBC hold the...Read full review »

I was privileged to serve on the board of directors of a local hospice for many years. Having just listened to the program from the 1990s featuring Dame Cicely Saunders, I see now, in 30 minutes of broadcast, everything I misunderstood in my time associated with the movement she started. If I had...Read full review »

Desert Island Discs was always on the radio at home, introduced me to music and connected me to the world of the 1960s and on. What a delight to find it again as a podcast. Hugely recommended listening.

What I love about this podcast (and the actual programme) is the breadth of music that is played. It is fantastic. Listening to how people achieve their goals, what life has been all about and what the future may be for them and how music raises the memories of sensations of the past is powerful....Read full review »

I have just discovered this incredible podcast. Was recommended by a friend to listen to Alan Carr who I love & am now totally addicted to listening to anyone I’ve ever heard of or someone I haven’t. So interesting. Absolutely love it.

Great to be able to listen (and often re-listen!) to the stories of such diverse and invariably fascinating guests, whether familiar or not.

Every time I listen, I think what are my desert island discs. Not an easy choice, however I do know what book I would bring. What I would like to know is if I can ditch the bible and bring another book. Well worth a listen especially if you like the guest. I recommend the Stella mcartney episode...Read full review »

I have loved DID for years but Lauren laverne just is not up to the job. She sounds like she’s reading questions from a crib sheet and evidently hasn’t researched her interviewees. Kirsty Young left big shoes to fill and Lauren laverne doesn’t come close

Lauren Laverne is wonderful in the chair chilled and warm; still one of my favourite podcast 🦋

Great interviews with terribly interesting people. Any chance you might pop the song title and artists in the bio. Sometimes it would be nice to re listen to the music at another time

I have to say I think Kirsty Young has possibly one of the best jobs out there. And she’s brilliant at it. How lucky to meet so many interesting, wise and inspirational people. Sycophantic, brown nosing nonsense. Kirsty, boring voice, tedious and predictable presenter. Cringe-able listening. I’d rather listen to my snoring cat.

Kirsty is brilliant at this job, she’s so insightful, putting people at ease, getting more out of an interview with this tact. Such a simple premise but so many fantastic stories and confessions come of it. Kirsty is a wonderful interviewer with a gentle manner who illicits wonderful gems and never makes the show about her. It's the perfect antidote for today's overly-produced, and super fast paced society.

where did Kirsty Young go? The new lady is fantastic also. She’s s good replacement. Can we have Anthony Joshua , Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Michael Watson, Barry McGuigan, David Haye on? Let’s get some boxers on. thanks Mike Hills

I love this for the chance to hear from middle aged and older people, particularly women. In the U.S., most popular interview shows are devoted to young actors and the occasional older male celebrity. It feels as if women’s voices disappear from popular culture at about aged 40, which is just...Read full review »

As interesting as this episode was, I felt that Nile had missed the brief.. playing many of his own tracks made it more like a Nile Rodgers documentary. Thoroughly enjoy this show. The questions are perspective and Kirsty Young really gets to know the guests. The intro music takes me back to my childhood in the UK. I live in South Africa and left England in 1966!

I’ve been listening since I was a kid. The interviews really get to the person behind the celebrity. The only down side is that I usually listen to podcasts to fall asleep, but these are too interesting to let me.
