I truly do love BBC Radio 4 and this show is one reason why.

This is fabulous! I am obsessed with this podcast. Russell is so intelligent, eloquent, brave and sincere. I love that he stands up for the underdog and less well off in society. He uses his experiences to lead him and others on a wonderful journey exploring inequality in society. We need more...Read full review »

Really hope she’s back soon. Kirsty is so smart- she’s reads her guest so well and asks the most intelligent and interesting questions. She is always on point with her timing & I miss her!

I really like Lauren Laverne, but not in this format. Also she's not been helped in that the guest selection under her tenureship has all been much of a muchness and 'celeb' heavy. Thankfully I still have lots of the back catalogue to keep me going :)

Desert Island Discs has become my new addiction. I love the intimacy of the interviews and laugh and cry in equal measure when listening. True nourishment for the soul, reminding us that we are all human beings before anything else. It saddens me to read the negative comments about Lauren...Read full review »

I absolutely love Desert Island Discs! I swim while listening with my waterproof ipod and custom made headphones and the time speeds by. It is the perfect mix of biography and music. I have listened to many of the archived episodes but Kirsty Young is my favourite so far. I really miss her so...Read full review »

I’ve always loved DID but it isn’t nearly as good as it used to be and that’s largely to do with Lauren Laverne. She’s really dumbed it down. It now feels like it should be on 6 music and not Radio 4. Very low brow. Bring back Kirsty Young.
Helisimon via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 03/27/19
She is probably the worst presenter presenting deserts island, no enthusiasm or rapport with guests. Very flat, bring back Kirsty Young
LeylaRaf via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 03/25/19
Sadly, new presenter appears to lack any engagement with guests and sounds like she is reading from a list of questions rather than a conversation that flows
Nichola1947 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 03/25/19
Missing Kirsty
RosemaryPallas via Apple Podcasts · Ireland · 03/25/19
New presenter is a little dim and also seems incapable of building rapport with her guests.

I 💙 love 💙 this program. Right off with the theme music - By The Sleepy Lagoon! -never change this! just sweeps me away to the perfect escape. It is such a calming program. Really ? Most boring 35 minutes of content for a while. Built a hairdressing empire. Had some scandal. Does some charity work. All squeezed into 35 tedious minutes of fun

I’ve been listening to Desert Island Discs since birth and after 35 years on this planet I am yet to discover elsewhere a more perfect format for revealing the layers of the human mind. I was privileged to serve on the board of directors of a local hospice for many years. I have loved DID for years but Lauren laverne just is not up to the job. She sounds like she’s reading questions from a crib sheet and evidently hasn’t researched her interviewees. Kirsty Young left big shoes to fill and Lauren laverne doesn’t come close
