“I admit my disappointment when Kirsty had to step down made me sceptical about her replacement. Over many years, I have found each presenter brought something new to the programme and this appeared to me to reach its zenith with Kirsty’s insight and empathy. I doubted Lauren’s background suited her to curate my favourite programme of all time. Well, I was wrong. Lauren has defied my predictions. I suspect she, too, has a deep love for the format and that has made her thoughtful and respectful. Of course, she brings something of her own and I am enjoying it. Plus ca change etc.”
