I’ve never been a history buff and honestly hated it in school. This podcast has definitely changed my attitude towards knowledge of the past. The topics presented are interesting and always explained well with humor thrown in. I anxiously await the next episodes!

I love listening to this podcast while I’m working. The jobs that I work allow me to wear headphones and this podcast is usually what I choose to listen to because I always learn so much!! I also really appreciate how they try to talk about underdiscussed issues and take a more intersectional and...Read full review »

I’m so grateful to have an example of what history study can be! When I was in middle school I was fascinated by ancient history but didn’t really go beyond the Western narrative of fun picture books, and when I was in high school I found myself questioning the purpose of history class when we...Read full review »

I had the blessing to be able to meet the wonderful people who do these in a zoom call for my early America class in undergrad, and used these podcasts for that class, it helped so much! I’ve been on the hunt for a good history podcast ever since Backstory closed its doors a few years ago and I think I found it. I believe I’ve listen to about four episodes now and I really enjoy them. I’m a historian myself and I have to say that ladies, I can’t wait to meet you at conferences....Read full review »

I love the thoughtful research that goes into every episode. The website always recognizes the resources that informs each episode, offering ways that you can learn even more. Thank you for this work!

Please realize that you are producing content in an aural medium and learn to adjust speech sounds for microphone. Also, a little less labeling historical actors and a lot more source mentions and citations would provide the now lacking seriousness to this podcast. Edit: Lose playing recording...Read full review »

I discovered this podcast in July and listened to the whole thing once over already, many twice and thrice. It’s amazing. It’s now part of my daily rotation neurdivergent-comfort-blanket-media along with Doctor Who and anything from my childhood.

Transparency: I’ve only listened to one episode, it’s a random one from the middle but I was so impressed by how thoroughly researched it was considering it was outside the typical realm of the podcast. Was moved to rave review.

I stumbled upon this podcast by accident. I was researching a subject (I can’t remember which one at the moment) and this podcast popped up. I downloaded the episode that I wanted to listen to and I was hooked. The amount of research that you all do for your podcast is incredible. I really...Read full review »

This podcast is an absolute gift to fans of history. Such an insightful, thoughtful, entertaining and sometimes humorous analysis of historical events, some I’d never heard of before. Dig is a wonderful example of why we need more women telling women’s history!

I’ve listened to Dig for years. I love referring people to it - friends, acquaintances, people who visit the museum I work at...give me an opening and I gush about the scholarship & style. If I have time to listen to anything, I look first to see if there’s a new Dig episode.

I listened to an episode for a class and fell in love and Marissa even spoke in my class for a bit. I really appreciate the press on airing the lesser seen views of history the hosts go for, but there are times the “girl power” fist tends to raised a bit too fervently; to be fair, they usually give a “this will sound feminist” warning so at least they’re aware of it lol

I am a history idiot, so it’s great to have the expertise of actual historians at my listening disposal. What I like best is how much context they give to historical events and why those things mattered (and often still matter).
