“I came to this podcast because of a recommendation on Today Explained based on the interview with the mayor of Helena. The mayor seems like an incredible person, however the interviewers are terrible. From the get go they pronounce Helena (correctly pronounced like the name Helen-ah) Hel-ee-na. As a Montanan this was like nails on a chalkboard. The interviewee very tactfully corrected them by using the name of his city several times in the answer to their first question, but they continue to pronounce it wrong for the rest of the interview and every time they do the mayor slips the name of his city into to answer to the question. Very frustrating that they did not do their research before the interview or at the very least be aware enough to pick up on correct pronunciation when it was used. As it is, it comes across as patronizing and arrogant, as if they know how the city’s name should be pronounced better then that city’s mayor.”
