Flight of the Navigator 1986
Technically, a child abduction movie but as Disney is the producer the abduction is done for laughs. You see the abductor is an alien spaceship that sounds an awful lot like Pee Wee Herman. Definitely a kid’s movie but does it still work?

216 Batteries Not Included 1987
Living machines from out of space having nothing better to do with their time help a bunch of New Yorkers hang on to a condemned building. Does that sound stupid? Sure. But maybe it still works?

Teen Wolf 1985
It’s the movie that launched a sequel, a cartoon, a TV show and a remake. But does that mean it still works? Also, just how many montages can a 90 minute movie have? A lot of them, evidently.

214 Manhattan Murder Mystery 1993
Our patreon people picked this minor Woody Allen movie. Can’t say here if it still works but we can mention that the women are all age appropriate and nobody wants to bed an underage child.so that’s different from Woody’s usual fare.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Guest Calvin Williams
It’s not a sequel. It’s not a remake. It’s simply another Bad Lieutenant but this time he’s in New Orleans and he is Nicolas Cage. Does that make it better or worse?

It is the final movie in our Union Films Series. Here we look at an 80s movie about 20s coal miners attempting to unionize under horrible circumstances. Have a listen.

Customer Reviews
Progressive, Supportive, Informative & Affirming
I listen to this when I need zero stress. It’s light entertainment I can enjoy. But there is something deeper going on at the same time. These guys are very socially progressive and the older movies they review serve as a vehicle for astute social commentary without being emotionally heavy. It’s the unexpected back door to the enlightened view and for that reason, I wish more people were listening. Their commentary is supportive, informative and affirming. Bonus that Joe does a bit of a history review from the time the movie was released (more commentary opportunities). And the guest stars are really fun. Does This Still Work works because it identifies and names social patterns, relationship norms, ideas and ways of relating and often provides a sorely needed update without ever feeling like a lecture because they talk about movies!

This podcast is always my go-to, whenever I’m thinking of current movie trends against the films of the past. Plus their guest stars bring great charisma and insight to the discussions!! Really just love the guest stars.
Unbalanced, but still kinda fair
I was turned on to this podcast because a few of my other favorite podcasters have been on as guests. I listened to their shows and chuckled a bit, and the listened to a few more due to auto play and being out of other podcasts. Not going to lie…very fair to middling podcast. While it doesn’t follow the “two white guys yammering” stereotype, it’s not far off. As far as I can tell neither host has any qualification to talk about film, and seem, quite often to miss the point. This is especially true around sci-if and movies made as reflections of their time. I found myself yelling “your missing the point” more that once In just about every episode I listened to! (Blade runner, apocalypse now, clue, clueless and Paton)
