Troubleshooting Anxiety | Shorts
Good morning, this is Rita Hogan and welcome to the Dogs Are Individuals podcast. This podcast is all about your dog through an herbal lens.
It is a beautiful day out, I am loving, loving Spring. Everything's coming up, everything is in flower, making a lot of flower essences here. Just love flower essences, they are just beautiful and a great tool in your toolbox. A lot of people overlook them, but if you've been listening to me for a while, you know the emotional component of a dog is important. So don’t overlook the flower essences of the world.
We are talking today about anxiety, it’s a Q=A from Laura Humphreys - thank you for writing into the podcast. The first thing what I do with a dog that is anxious and restless and having a hard time paying attention for training, I would check the diet. Bring down the carb. If your dog is on kibble, I would work towards a minimally processed diet with fresh food feeding. Low carb, get rid of some of the sugar in the diet. Second, I would look at the kidney. Anytime I have a dog that is on a good diet but is acting really fearful and reactive, I start supporting the kidneys. This time of year, we have a lot of restlessness because we are in Spring. I would work with herbs like blessed thistle, milk thistle leaf and flower, leaf flower and root, milk thistle and nettl flower

Three Remedies for Head Conditions
Good morning, this is Rita Hogan and welcome to the Dogs Are Individuals podcast. This podcast is all about your dog through an herbal lens. I practice qigong, and there’s a lovely smiling ritual where you smile to your organs. Try it right now! No matter what kind of mood you're in, it will make you feel better. You can feel things start to shift in your body. I love it! I also love herbs. Today, I am going to talk about draining the head. What that means is bringing fluid and infection down out of the head so it can be rendered. That’s a philosophical way of talking about it. But helping things that are occurring in the head. Today I am talking about things that are non cancerous. There’s three remedies that I love! Hornbeam Phyto Embryonic Therapy, Cleavers tincture, and Hepar Sulph. Okay, so let’s jump in!

Dr. Kidd's Guide to Herbal Dog Care | Book Review
Hi, this is Rita Hogan and welcome to the Dogs Are Individuals podcast. I’m a clinical herbalist and I’ve been practicing for 20 years. This podcast is all about your dog through an herbal lens. After I did my Modern Pet Handbook review, someone asked me to review Dr Kidd’s Guide to Herbal Dog Care. Of course I have this on my shelf! Randy Kidd is a vet and an herbalist, so he is one of the few western herbalist vets out there. This is a great little book and I think it's an invaluable resource. Let’s jump right into my book review!

Why I'm NOT Brand Loyal | Shorts
Hi, this is Rita Hogan and welcome to the Dogs Are Individuals podcast. I’m a clinical herbalist and I’ve been practicing for 20 years. This podcast is all about your dog through an herbal lens. Welcome back to another short! My life has definitely gone to the dogs. It has also gone to my all natural community. I definitely love the community I am in, in my career. Doing wonderful work for dogs. But I do want to talk about why I am not brand loyal. It has nothing to do with brands, it has to do with the ingredients in products for the individual dog. You have to do what rings true for you. I will never be brand loyal. I am going to look at every product, every formula, and see if all the ingredients are right for the individual dog. So let’s get to it and dive right in.

Rosemary for Dogs
Hi, this is Rita Hogan and welcome to the Dogs Are Individuals podcast. I’m a clinical herbalist and I’ve been practicing for 20 years. This podcast is all about your dog through an herbal lens.
We are gonna talk about Rosemary today. It’s very controversial, and I want to speak from an herbalist perspective about using Rosemary with dogs. It’s a beautiful plant and is a very sustainable and warming herb. It affects circulation and has various other health benefits. However, there are some times when I would practice caution with Rosemary. Tune in to learn about when you should and should not utilize Rosemary for your furry friend.

My favorite podcast
Dogs are Individuals is hands down my favorite podcast. Not only do I learn a ton from each episode, but I find myself laughing out loud at Rita’s humorous commentary.
An excellent and helpful resource
As someone that I started studying about herbs and the benefits to them, knowledge isn't as accessible for animals. I’m find this podcast extremely helpful in getting insight to the benefits of going a more holistic route versus using strictly pharmaceuticals for dogs. Rita is obviously very knowledgeable and passionate about this subject and I love the fact that she still reminds you that this isn’t the only option and make sure to always take your dog to the vet. I have worked with a multitude of holistic and TCM veterinarians and honestly find Rita to be more knowledgeable than even those I’ve worked with. Thanks Rita for taking the time to share!
