“I subscribe to 500ish podcasts. This is my favorite documentary! I am originally from East Tennessee where we already know and love Dolly Parton. Her donation to families affected by the Smoky Mountain Fire is a testament to her generosity. On a personal level, My children have benefited from her Imagination Library; a program which provides a new book to young children every month. Recently, we have all become aware of her massive donation to help find a cure for COVID-19.
Even with my longstanding appreciation, I learned SO MANY interesting things in this podcast.
As a child in the 70’s, I saw the Porter Wagner show and am aware of it’s prominence. I admire the way that Dolly was able to nuance the opportunity to let her immense talent flourish. Yet, It is her determination to be true to herself that really shines through.
This podcast highlights her prolific songwriting career as well as her excellence as a performer. I recall watching an awards show, several years ago. The teleprompter stopped working while Dolly and a co-presenter (can’t remember name) were having a dialogue about the nominees. The other presenter was literally at a loss for words. Yet, Dolly immediately improvised. She put the audience and the co-presenter at ease and saved the whole segment.
I think this perfectly illustrates her genius as a performer. Even more, it reflects who Dolly is as a person....talented, funny, generous and gracious.”
