    188. 31 Questions to Ask During the College Recruiting/Selection Process

This week’s podcast might be the most important one that I’ve ever done, as it outlines a list of questions that I think every baseball family should have in the back of their minds as they approach the college recruiting/selection process. At Cressey Sports Performance, we’ve worked with countless high school kids who’ve gone through this process, and we’ve learned a lot of the norms, seen a lot of the common mistakes, and helped a lot of folks navigate these challenging times.

We welcome recently retired 13-year MLB veteran first baseman Eric Hosmer to the latest podcast. We discuss his path to being a #3 overall MLB draft pick, and what made him not only a fast riser through the minor leagues, but also a guy who immediately “stuck” in the big leagues. Eric speaks to how a young Royals team ascended to a World Series championship, and how the game evolved – especially for hitters – over the course of his career. He also reflects on what strategies kept him durable, and how various coaches impacted him along the way.

We are all lucky to have this podcast

This podcast has been so impactful.

My son is hyper mobile (extremely flexible) and I found the Elite Baseball Development Podcast looking for information on how to help him.

He moved really wonky and you could just see how frustrating it was for him to try to control his body in baseball and ever other sport

I was getting to the point where I thought maybe sports were just not for him.

But Eric brings up hyper mobility pretty often and even has a full podcast devoted to it (episode 117).

From the podcast I was better able to understand the physical and mental challenges my son was facing. Just that understanding is so huge and I never would have had that perspective if this podcast didn’t exist

Using Eric’s advice I started to get my son to lift just a little bit of weight. And the results have been incredible - off the charts level of improvement for overall athletic movement.

And because he can move without as much effort, his situational learning has also improved dramatically.

If I had not found this podcast when I did, I would have given up coaching, my son would have given up sports and all the benefits that come along with learning to compete and get better.

I am truly grateful to Eric and everyone at csp.

True food for thought, from a Top notch Coach and Teacher.

This podcast along with many other products from Eric have raised the bar on what is possible, and therefore expected from a coach.

I find myself listening through episodes multiple times, taking notes, and then sharing the good word (including this podcast) to those who may benefit.

If a baseball/softball athlete or coach is not listening, they are missing out on a free degree in the development of their sport.
