Mostly really good, some misses
Overall good and interesting show. Sometimes though they really just do a pretty superficial job. Like they bring up a ton of interesting questions and I’m excited to learn the answers and then the episode is over and that’s it, they never dug in at all. Which is ironic because the premise of the show is that it’s diving deep into a subject. Also the 8th episode about suicide in the arctic really rubbed me the wrong way. It was weird. Here is a story that is both disturbing and fascinating. Why are these kids killing themselves at such a high rate in this community? And what can people do to help? And instead none of that is investigated and literally half or more of the episode is about the journalist and how much she worries and cares about these people. It’s weird because she’s talking in this super woke way but is totally unaware that she is making it all about her. Which is awkward and hypocritical, but ALSO not remotely interesting. It ignored all of the interesting questions in favor of talking about how hard it is to care so much about other people haha. Anyway despite having some misses, the show does nail it at least half the time and when it does it genuinely is good. And hopefully it will improve, I’m only 9 episodes in.

Smart, thoughtful, deeply reported - with a conscience.

NPR does it again... Embedded tells a story in a way that makes you feel like you are in the story. The podcast is short enough where I can listen to a whole episode in one shot, but not short enough where I have questions at the end. Great job!!!
