The TMCC Library Committee hosts its annual campus community poetry reading event where students, faculty and staff are invited to read self-penned poems, one of their favorite poems, or listen to others read. The TMCC F.R.E.E. Committee chose the human/animal relationship as the topic for 2018. F.R.E.E. stands for Faculty for Radical Education and Enlightenment, and each year a new topic is chosen for interdisciplinary collaboration between areas of study such as math, education, anthropology, sociology, political science and art.

Retired Humanities Professor Bill Baines, also a formerly commissioned Marine Corps Officer, carries on a long standing tradition at Truckee Meadows Community College by reading a message from the Commandant of the Marine Corps, in celebration of the Marine Corps birthday. The purpose of the TMCC Institutional Advisory Council is to ensure the linkage of the College to the community it serves and to anticipate future regional educational trends.
