“I found this by searching for “podcasts for women over 40” on my 40th birthday, and I’m so glad I did.
I realized just today why this show immediately felt so familiar and good — it’s the rare and PARTICULAR satisfaction you get when art understands women’s lives and female friendships. Today they were talking about Kim’s well-intentioned mom leaving a giant neon sign at her wedding, and she said “I had a certain minimum level of taste I was trying to keep—“ and Jennifer said, “How about let’s stay away from quantifying taste and just say, you had a particular aesthetic?”
While I was absolutely dying laughing, I realized it was the same feeling as watching a lunch scene from Sex and the City, but if the characters were real and acted as normal people do, and were mostly healthy about men instead of mostly toxic, and if the primary purpose was to warn you and delight you about everything that comes with aging.
What sets it apart is the authenticity. They have just the right balance of topics, just the right guests, and you can tell they’re smart/successful but they’re never pretentious. It’s really like they’re your actual friends. Can’t recommend it enough.
(PS: if you happen to be in the cannabis profession like I am, you will LOVE the ongoing real, funny, non-stigmatizing discussions about weed and older women!)”
