Way too many ads, and a very american podcast in a bad way. The stories are interesting but like half of it is ads

I enjoy most of the shows. Could handle less episodes of experts talking on topics and hear more real people stories. Also, it says updated weekly and I subscribe to iHeart, hasn’t been a single episode since 1/11??

My last show January the 1st or second show. Now all I get is. Do you want to replay the last show ????

True stories well-told.. Too bad about the annoying and anxiety-provoking music. The stories are strong enough without it.

This podcast is more comical than tragic. No longer following.

Overall this is an engaging and interesting podcast with fascinating and articulate guests. Please give the title of the book and the author’s name, plus social media in the show notes. Also would like to see more diverse guests.

I sure hope there was fact checking on your last three guests. Sounded highly unlikely.

I’ve listened for a couple years now, but I’m crying “Uncle.” It seems every episode is the same: some unknown person writes their memoir about their traumatic childhood with their big, huge “secret” and never gets over it so they “write a memoir.” I can’t listen anymore to the same old story. ...Read full review »

Dani’s story and episodes of interviews are truly inspirational and enlightening. The calming, thoughtful way she interacts and engages with each guest makes it one of my favorite podcasts!

The calm voice in my life- and always interesting, thoughtful and insightful of the human experience. I want to hug the guests!

Thank you for this podcast. I’ve found it really helpful to know that many families have secrets. I found out I was adopted by my stepfather when I was nine. However I always knew something was wrong. There is a lot of lies tied to this one big huge lie. I enjoy listening to the podcast even...Read full review »

This is an excellent and engrossing podcast. The only reason I don’t give it 5/5 stars is because it does such a poor job of promoting the work of the guests who come on and share the most intimate details of their lives. Most of the guests have authored memoirs. Dani Shapiro will state the full...Read full review »

This is a really wonderful podcast. My only issue is the ridiculous number of advertisements that are included in each episode. Podcasts have ads but not this many! Still well worth listening but be prepared for the commercial breaks.

In your latest podcast, who was at fault, who died, no answers provided and I listened for over 1 hour. Yes, I know the subject is about family secrets, but she never knew what happened and neither do the listeners, ultimately.

The interview with Mikel Jollett was one of best “Family Secrets” episodes. My heart goes out to him and I appreciate the way he told his story with love, humor, and honesty. So glad he is in a good place with his own family-i bet a lot of hard inner work to get to that place. Really appreciate...Read full review »

Stories about privileged people going through mental health problems. “I lived in a 3200 sq feet apartment in NYC to very successful, affluent parents, and they had depression and it was very hard on me”

I loved the original format of this podcast when guests shared family secrets and Dani and the guest explored the ramifications of those secrets. This year though, there are very few with that format and too many conversations with doctors & experts. The brilliance of this podcast was that it...Read full review »

The stories and guest are fascinating and everything is so well put together but I swear at least half of each episode’s run time is just ads. It makes it borderline unlistenable which is disappointing because the actual content is really good

I first read Dani’s book Inheritance and then discovered this podcast. From the beginning I was hooked because it felt as if she knew all my families secrets but I didn’t know them. I love this podcast. I’ve been listening since the beginning. They are stories that affect people deeply and help me to learn about secrets and the damage that they do. I get really excited every time I see a new episode that I haven’t listened to yet! ❤️

Family Secrets is a show so well done that it pierces to the deep part of the soul. Listening to Dani’s interviews is an inspiration to honesty; giving hope to those who have been the secret keepers and hope to those who have discovered the deception and betrayal. To realize so many have been...Read full review »

I’m giving 3 stars, but only the first couple seasons were worth listening to. When I first found this podcast, I devoured the episodes. I started listening to Dani’s podcast since the beginning. I loved her stories about family secrets and their impact on their lives. Great season - I looke forward to new episodes each week for my drive to visit my elderly mom! I resonate with this podcast on a deeply personal level, having grown up in a toxic and dysfunctional home, a home ravaged by mental illnesses, alcoholism, unhealed generational trauma and the secrets meant to keep everything hidden. I would easily have given this podcast a five star rating...Read full review »

I have loved listening to every episode of each season, however, I have to agree with the most recent comments re the latest stories not as compelling. I have great curiosity, respect, and empathy. I just don’t have all the time in the world. The 2-part episode with Sarah Willis Fisher may be what ends my listening habit of Family Secrets. Some of the calls are a bit difficult to hear possibly because I’m English and the combination of poor signal and strong American accent makes it hard work to listen to. Hi, I have to agree with this season highlighting the secrets of the privileged, esp. Pricilla. I’m sorry but it was kinda a big snore. I used to find this podcast had some pretty compelling stories. Now, it’s just a lot of very privileged people promoting their memoirs about their privileged upbringings where maybe the parents got divorced or someone had an affair…Big freaking deal. A lot of it is hardly even trauma. I’m not...Read full review »

I loved the older seasons but it’s hard to hear privilege complaining about their small problems. Not real problems like putting food on the table. Priscilla’s problems seem so small compared to Putsata. Just a little annoying to hear.

Dani is the secrets whisperer. She knows how to pull beautiful stories out of interesting people. This is a literary podcast, will appeal to readers. The guests are amazing but Dani makes them shine. Every episode has the juiciness of a Dateline episode but the beauty of a novel.

I really like the show, and the host has a wonderful resonate voice that comes through clearly. But every episode seems to have difficulty recording the interviewee. Their voice is not clear and they tend to drop words so I miss quite a bit of their comments. I wish this could be fixed.
