In this episode, I chat with Christina Exie, the founder and creative director of Australian athleisure brand EXIE. When Christina won reality TV show Project Runway in 2012, judges Megan Gale and Peter Morrissey deemed her pieces worthy of any Milan or Paris runway - they said she was ready for global design success!.Ten years later, Christina says it turns out she is! Christina's mission is to give women technical activewear combined with a street-style aesthetic and inspire them to unleash their inner badass and to feel powerful in all facets of their lives. EXIE's athleisure wear was created in 2019 when Christina couldn't find minimal, bold activewear that made her feel strong and sexy. EXIE is kind to the planet operating as an ethical and sustainable business. More than 60 percent of the collections are produced from recycled fabrics. In less than a year after Christina began building her e-commerce business from her Melbourne spare bedroom, the brand's vision was recognised via a partnership with the renowned Accent Group. Now Exie has five retail stores across Australia! Exie's values and aspirational lifestyle have attracted high profile collaborating partners. That success proves while Christina got her start as a designer on reality TV after a fashion degree, at heart she is an entrepreneur. Christina has helped multiple six figure brands scale from concept through to operations, providing advice from her 15 years of global roles and personal experience founding and growing two e-commerce, wholesale and now retail businesses. During roles as a designer, merchandiser and marketer for billion-dollar brands across the globe, my technical design and tailoring capabilities helped establish key fitting and design standards for boutique and chain retailers. Described in national media as "the person to watch", Christina is a fashion industry leader and forward thinker.
