Filipino American Contemporary Experience 2014
This course introduces students to the Filipina and Filipino contemporary experience in the United States. I will draw primarily on topics I have focused on as a researcher, scholar and activist. It is the experience of Filipinos and Filipinas as low-wage, racialized and gendered workers that will be a key focus in this course. I also incorporate recent research on the identities, experiences and cultural practices of the Filipino American second generation.

This class gives an overview of the key topics of the course and provides an overview of the course requirements. Students are encouraged to consider course requirements not simply as assignments to be completed for grade, but as contributions to the Filipino community in the U.S. more broadly.
