“I agree that the Times' podcast may sometimes be more authoritative but it's also flabby, slow and inconsistent. Football Weekly is consistently the most entertaining football digest, with a really winning blend. It possesses a great host in James Richardson and good panellists too, especially the informed Sid Lowe, the cerebral Marcela Mora y Araujo and the smarter-than-he-makes-out Barry Glendenning (who as a Red I loathe but do find great fun). What particularly comes across is how much those involved enjoy doing the programme, a contrast to some podcasts where you sense the host & panellists are there under sufferance. The emphasis is always on the Premiership, La Liga, Serie A, and the Champions League, but how can anyone knock a pacy half-hour of informed (and sometimes comically uninformed) football talk with loads of laughs? P.S. What has James Richardson done not to be a regular football presenter on British terrestial TV?? He's as warm and witty as he was on Football Italia a decade ago, and makes Lineker et al look like the rank amateurs they are. Anyway, roll on August!!”Read full review »

Richardson is an effortlessly charming host, and regulars Glendenning, Lowe, Ingle, McCarra and...”Read full review »
