“‘Ideally, they would conduct their business privately,’ nice of Barry to lord Sheik Mansour’s takeover of City as the ideal. “Ideally”, for Barry, the kind of owners who would drag clubs into the ESL should secretly takeover clubs without so much of a whisper. Imagine saying that. Imagine being against a prospective owner in Ek attempting to do things a little differently given how catastrophically wrong it almost went for English football. Imagine downplaying how awful the Kroenke’s are, or ‘the idea that another billionaire would some how be better is fanciful,’ even though that other billionaire is a (self-proclaimed at least) Arsenal fan and backed by three of Arsenal’s greatest ever players and manager. How fanciful and naïve! Get back in your box Arsenal fans! I’m glad Ronay immediately put him in his place. I know Barry’s USP is passive aggressive contrarianism and a disinterest in football, but it’s getting a tad grating.
Oh, and this week: Arsenal win 2-0 and the discussion is hOw bAd aRe aRseNal, aRtEtA oUt?! What, seriously? That’s your commentary on the game?
‘FT readers are vacuous’, not like the Guardian writers to make disdainful generalisations about others.
I can’t wait to find out which footballer Max thinks is “nice” this week 🤗”
