Friendly and Perceptive
Over the last 20 years there has been a huge explosion in language learning resources, so it's hard to find a niche, but Jessica and "French Your Way" has found one. How? Each week she delivers a short, improvised explanation of some interesting or tricky aspect of French, in a friendly manner, with some of the best ways of explaining grammar which I've ever heard. She's like the ideal language tutor - happy, practical, perceptive, and never arrogant. She notices things about her native language which even published authors miss. She knows that people listening to podcasts for education are usually busy, so she never goes on too long - she even splits up episodes to make it easier to download and listen, if she goes past about 15 minutes. Just one example of her subject-matter would be "faux-amis" = words which looks the same English/French but have different meanings; a real trap for French learners, and Jessica is experienced enough to know that. My only criticism is that the French phrases are sparse and said very quickly by Jessica. I would prefer a bit more actual French and enunciated slowly as well as at "vitesse normale."Read full review »
