Interview with Larry Tye
I enjoyed your interview with Larry Tye. I’m a clinical social worker and licensed alcohol and drug counselor. Though overall, I thought the interview was interesting, I thought both of you got yourself in the weeds talking about substance use and mental illness. Some of your terms were not affirming first person language by using older terms that are stigmatizing. Also, it is easy to speculate what someone might have been dealing with but based on my expertise bi-polar was not described by Larry. McCarthy may have met the criteria for Bi-Polar 1, but what I heard was not accurate. I think we need to be very careful when talking about someone’s struggles and making stereotypical assertions. I’m not a McCarthy fan by any means, but how you use language and discuss someone’s struggle with substance use and mental illness must be respectful for those who are currently struggling with these issues. Sincerely, Mark Disselkoen

GREAT PODCAST and it's FREE. His voice is clear as a bell which I happen to really like about him. It's like having another album, but much more personal. NPR offers great insite into new music and always seems to find something different and new to give its listeners. Enough said.Read full review »

This show has a way of taking interviews on topics which I think I will not care about and making them interesting. Just great.
