Terry Gross is insufferable & getting worse
Although Fresh Air attracts interesting creators, Terry Gross has gotten more & more self-absorbed & insufferable to the point that I can’t listen anymore. I thought after all these years she might improve, but apparently no one has given her the memo that she is NOT the person of interest in this broadcast. No one tunes in to hear HER talk, yet she dominates the show with verbiage that is constantly designed to prove to listeners she’s “smart” rather than asking deeply provocative questions & letting her guests talk. This isn’t Fresh Air, this is “Listen to Terry Gross try and prove she’s an A-Lister” without having the intellectual hardware and innovative creativity to back that up. I simply can’t abide her haughty and often dismissive tone anymore toward her brilliant guests (obviously born out of insecurity about her actual achievements). I could easily name names, because there are many times I’ve heard her be rude toward guests who have ten times her achievements, cutting them off & making listeners hear HER talk yet again, NOT her guests, and then abruptly ending their time on the show before it can (gasp) become a deep conversation shared between TWO people rather than HER tiresome monologue about “Look how pseudo-intellectual I am. I’m so insightful and aware!” NPR, without these stellar guests, there is no Fresh Air. For the love of God, someone please tell Terry Gross she isn’t the luminary here, and she keeps wasting her opportunity to highlight & explore the finest minds in the world to keep the spotlight on herself. You can do better, NPR—it’s high time you got a truly brilliant interviewer who actually wants to hear what her amazing guests have to say.

I never thought I'd live to see this. This is definitely one of my favorites. Being outside of the States, there was just no way to listen to this very valuable show. Now, I can listen to this whenever, whereever I am. Thank you for making it available to the public.Read full review »

Terry Gross is a skilled interviewer. She's learned, and as I once heard her described "could interview a slug and make it interesting". After G.W. Bush took office she went, as NPR in general and shows such as Frontline on PBS did, on a liberal crusade. If you're a liberal it...Read full review »
