Tom and Jason consider the importance of promises in the Bible. As we’ll learn today, we absolutely need promises. They are a gift from God for believers in this present age. How do the New Testament authors apply promises spoken in the Old Testament to believers living under the New Covenant?

Today, we continue looking at the Law of Moses and the Christian. More specifically, we look at an instance in the New Testament where we can see the coming of Jesus resulting in a transformation of the Law. Jason and Tom work through Paul’s instructions to the church in 1 Corinthians 5 which were clearly based upon a law in Deuteronomy 22. How did Paul arrive at his conclusions in the law’s application for the church?

Today’s podcast focuses on the Law of Moses and the Christian. As we talked about in previous podcasts, Moses saw a day coming when God’s people would obey the law. By this, he meant the law recorded in Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Yet Christ has come. How has his coming changed the way God’s people relate to the Law of Moses? Tom and Jason talk about the three R’s New Testament authors used when thinking about the Law. They also talk about two images Jason uses to help...

Tom and Jason talk about the light and the lens necessary in order to fully understand the content in the Old Testament. In Old Testament times, the people who loved God had the light. That was sufficient for the needs of the people at that time. It did not, however, reveal with 100% clarity the truths contained within the Old Testament. The coming of Christ gave a particular lens to New Covenant believers allowing them to read the Old Testament based upon the coming of the Lord Jesus.

Today’s podcast is the counterpart to last week’s podcast, where we talked about the New Testament’s perspective on the Old Testament’s audience and comprehension. Today, Tom and Jason talk about the Old Testament’s perspective on the Old Testament. Specifically, what can we learn from Moses, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel? What did they say about the audience in their day? What did they know about those who would hear in the future? This subject highlights the importance of the Old Testament...

The book of Ruth repeats the exodus story making it a new exodus. In Ruth, Naomi and Ruth are led out of exile and find a full and satisfying life because of the Davidic line. These connections back to the exodus teach us that Ruth is far more than just a sweet love story that leads to the eventual birth of David. Since Ruth is a new exodus story, this book is looking forward to a future day when Jew and Gentile together will enjoy life under the reign of Jesus, the Davidic king.
