This is a first that I’ve heard an audio drama mention the Hmong and what happened to them during the Vietnam War. As a Hmong person myself, this was very awesome to hear!

Did no one look up US Army ranks at any point when writing this? Did someone mistake a Corporal for a Colonel? As a veteran it make the story impossible to listen to.

I wasn’t annoyed by the military inaccuracies that bothered so many others. I suppose if I had knowledge of military ranks it would bug me, but I didn’t notice. The story was interesting enough to keep me listening. But the final episode cuts off mid-sentence. SO DISAPPOINTING! Maybe it was the...Read full review »

Fantastic story with thoughtful production, great sound and very worthy cast. Can’t wait to hear what y’all put out next.

I did listen to this entire podcast, and I really thought the voice acting of Tessa was very impressive. But the story had so so many holes, and was difficult to follow. Even when listening to a previous episode directly before a new one, making any connections between the episodes was DIFFICULT....Read full review »

Very interesting story, good listen.

What happened to the final episode?!?! it just cut off mid sentence! Hopefully this isn’t how it’s supposed to end.

This show was good, but it had a few things that made it worse then it could be. It has a great plot and good voice actors, but sometimes I couldn’t tell what was happening. In essence, it would have been easier to follow as a video or something. The sound quality was as good as the other Qcode...Read full review »

Honestly, nothing about this show disappoints. The voice acting is great and I get honestly emotional and scared from the events and sounds on this podcast. But definitely for mature audiences only. 😅

I wanted to wait until the season was finished before writing my review. I have enjoyed other Q code productions that used sound skillfully to aid in telling a story. Ghost tape, for me, was a lot of intense sounds with not a whole lot of explanation. I am still not really sure what was going on...Read full review »

I patiently waited weekly to listen to this wonderfully written podcast just to be very very very disappointed in the ending, my sister and I agree this went from a 5 star podcast to 1.5 in an episode.
jackixavier via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/15/20
i’ve loved literally everything else q-code has ripped from the reddit story mines, but this one was starkly lacking. beyond the plot weirdness and awkward writing, the sound vascillated from way too loud and overcrowded spundscapes to barely audible dialogue and back again. then, episode 8 ended...Read full review »

Not sure why I give Qcode a try anymore. They create these high quality productions, then release shows that end in a wet hot fart

Great show - episode 8 doesn’t finish tho, hoping this is just an error
Sl@ths1925 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/14/20
I was enjoying it for the most part, very interesting concept, but it seems to end mid sentence in around the 20 minute mark in Episode 8?
J.Crew01 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/14/20
This may sound a little choppy cause I didn’t want this to be super long lol sorry. Pros: the show was interesting in the beginning and kept me coming back. I think the acting was pretty good despite the writing. Like other’s have pointed out, Tessa’s character is unlikeable, but I don’t think...Read full review »

Typically Qcode is really good! This one misses the mark big time. Awful acting. Main character is like listening to a defiant toddler. Don’t waste your time.

I made it to episode 4... far enough to realize this just doesn’t work.. I’m always a little worried about Q-code productions, as they tend to favor sound design over delivering a good story, and this podcast doesn’t deliver on any level.. Fiction should be an interesting, immersive journey, but...Read full review »

I love this podcast don’t get me wrong. But it has some things that I really don't agree with. I don’t love how impossible it is to follow the storyline. But that also why I love it. I love how you can freely piece together the story and how most of it is simply a mystery. When I listen to...Read full review »

No chemistry between uninteresting, generic characters. Extremely subpar voice acting. Terrible, simple writing. Guessed the ending before the first episode was over. Waste of time
Drowzy_ via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/07/20
It could have been a cool story. Agree w many other listeners regarding stereotypes and lack of accuracy. On top of that I felt like I needed to turn the audio way up just to hear the dialogue and then there are some really loud scenes that are way too loud and startling.
jameenh via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/07/20
I liked QCodes other podcasts, particularly The Left Right Game, but this one isn’t as good. The two main voice actors are great but they’re really the only good thing about it tl;dr: it’s just okay. Got cheap scares, meh writing, a good idea with poor execution The writing is stilted and...Read full review »

This plot.....it’s impossible to follow. Jumbled army ranks, timeline that makes no sense (how is Tessa suddenly an expert on tapes she just discovered?) convoluted sound effects....these all coalesce to make this story an absolute mess. I can’t really make sense of it. NOT worth a listen.
Jgbirv via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/05/20
Meh
I wanted to like this if only on the basis of POCs making up the bulk of the cast. Three stars for that. The rest is pretty trashy and embarrassing: an unbelievable story with a skewed timeline, characters with no like-ability and no chemistry with each other; reliance on outdated...Read full review »

so far, but why, in the age of the internet, is the military part so far off??? Army Boot Camp isn’t 17 weeks long. Can’t believe no one researched ranks and other Army terms. Hilarious to think a corporal is high ranking. The Army also calls it Basic Training not Boot Camp. It’s supposed to be a Post not a Base. Even if they meant Colonel, usually an officer can’t be married to an enlisted. I’m not sure...Read full review »

Like many reviewers, I found the main character unlikeable and unsympathetic. The acting and sound effects can be overdone when they’re trying to build up to something. Meh.

QCode has great story writers and excellent sound design; their podcasts are enerally the best examples of what I want most in the modern day embodiment of how radio cereals started. However, this show is filled with military inaccuracies. Some of the terms, language and general conceptions are...Read full review »

First off a corporal has no authority and has only about 1-2 years total time in the Army. I have to assume someone meant Colonel when this chars was written. At least try to make the Army ranks make sense. A Corporal running an entire base is laughable. Did anyone even Google Army ranks?
Emueagles via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/23/20
Top-notch acting, strong female-focused psychological thriller with an engaging mystery, extra points for historical and multicultural flavor. Immersive binaural sound effects pull you in. I love all of Qcode’s work and this raises the bar.

This story is interesting, and would be a wonderful pod to listen to if it was done properly. It’s very hard to follow along with the story, to figure out what is going on etc. The unending harsh language is really too much, I’m not one to care about language, but in this podcast it’s distracting...Read full review »

Why is the leader of the boot camp a corporal?! That is a low rank, below sergeant. Why is the boot camp psychologist also the primary criminal investigator? I realize a story called Ghost Tapes isn’t going to be rooted in reality, but these two things, alone, are enough to ruin it.
Sdawson73 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/19/20
The acting is good. But the story isn’t strong enough to keep me listening. After two episodes I don’t really know what’s going on, which is fine, but from what I have heard so far I also don’t care. Shame

The acting is so bad. And Tessa, who decided she should be an angry 15 year old boy? Just awful awful acting on all these characters, especially Tessa. What a mess. Not the best story and short segments. The entire time you just hear people scream at each other, Gets older

Episodes are to short and the story is going no where. Cannot get past the language and anger of the main character, and I’m not normally offended by language. Not something I recommend or intend on listening to anymore.

I don’t really like how Tessa stated, “he’s an addict so take what he says with a grain of salt” without any sort of context...maybe if he had a history of lying as well that is one thing but I feel like a lot of people in recovery hear plenty of negativity from people who don’t understand the...Read full review »
