I’ve left the Mormon church but, damn it, I just can’t seem to leave the church alone. Whether you’re navigating leaving a high-demand religion too or simply find yourself fascinated by religion (and where it can go off the rails), pull up a camp chair. I share my post-Mormon perspective on the quirkiness of church culture and the compelling journey of faith deconstruction. I’ll be reading and reacting to crazy religion story submissions, doing long-form interviews and deep diving into church-related culture and current events. All with a lot of honesty, heart and humor- because that's what Girlscamp is all about.

    BRIEF DEATH EXPERIENCE

    BRIEF DEATH EXPERIENCE

Andrew flatlined and had an afterlife experience that really shook up his Mormon worldview when he was brought back to life. This kicked off an unraveling of faith in his 40s that ultimately led to leaving the Mormon church. We talk about his leaving and reconstructing, as well as connect over losing close family members, swap mission stories and appreciate being able to relate across an age gap. This conversation meant so much to me and I hope you enjoy it too.

    Married people have crushes too?!

    Married people have crushes too?!

My partner Bentley joins to kick-off our new once-a-month campfire chat tradition. We answers all your burning questions (how to start swearing, what not to bring up around Mormon family members, how I feel about the criticism for wearing a tank top dress to a temple wedding). Then things get a little juicier as we open up about how we navigate porn and "crushes" on other people.

For the full work crush story, listen to OVERSHARING IS CARING.

For the "Aimee episode about sex," listen to Let's talk about (ex-religious) sex!

FOUND JESUS, LEFT MORMONISM with Nicole Mitchell

FOUND JESUS, LEFT MORMONISM with Nicole Mitchell

Connecting with Jesus was the catalyst for Nicole leaving the LDS church. After telling her Mormon story (which includes addiction, foster care & a temple marriage at 18), we dig into her love of Jesus now as a post-Mormon. I admit my own Christianity hangups and we get into all the tricky dynamics between people of Christian faith and those who have deconstructed it.
Note: I know the video is out of focus :/

    PATRIARCHAL CURSINGS

    PATRIARCHAL CURSINGS

We’re talking Mormon fortune-telling aka patriarchal blessings. And how, for many ex-Mormons, they were less of a blessing and more of a curse. I give a little patriarchal blessing 101, share about the significant way my blessing changed my life and then read and unpack listener submissions about the crazy things their blessings said.

    Let's talk about (ex-religious) sex!

    Let's talk about (ex-religious) sex!

Sex therapist and self-proclaimed sex witch Aimee Heffernan talks us through all things sexual health. She answers questions about pornography, masturbation and non-monogamy from a post-religious perspective. Her openness and enthusiasm about sex is inspiring, especially for those of us with a lot of baggage (ahem, purity culture) around our own sexuality.

Annette Y. ,

I never rate podcasts but this deserves it. 👏🏻💯

I’m an ex-vangelical/ex-charismatic and so deeply appreciate Haley’s take on deconstruction. She’s also an excellent interviewer, but honestly my favorite episodes are the “campfire chats” where she is just reading submissions from people and answering questions. I feel connected to the other listeners by proxy. If you’re deconstructing Christianity (in any of its iterations) and feel alone, this is a great pod to check out.

Bright, talented, wildly intelligent, relatable, extremely helpful, AND entertaining

What a spring in my step this this young yet so mature, so thoughtful, so fair minded, and so strong lady has brought into my little ex-mo stay at home mom world in Utah. I so very much appreciate your handle on the REAL realty here with your experience and knowledge of the Mormon church both in and out of it. Keep up the fantastic work and thank you for bringing the healing tears, the many laughs, and a deep respect for all sides showing your listeners that it can be done, while also creating a space for your audience to sort things out in their own heads and hearts, very well done 👏🏻👏🏻

Hayolla ,

Keep up the great work!

I love this podcast!! I’m to the point where I have deconstructed the lies of religion. Now I'm to where I'm processing the trauma religion brought into my life. This podcast helps me to feel validated and helps to find humor in working through those feelings and emotions.
