Description
God’s Word for Today 14 Nov, 2024 26 One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. 27 Whoever is slothful will not roast his game, but the diligent man will get precious wealth. 28 In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death. - Prov 12:26-28 ESV THE PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS IS LIFE We live in a spiritually darkened world. People are gullible and are easily led astray without guidance. The righteous can provide genuine help for others. [see Prov 1:7]. The gullible are easily enticed to engage in sinful practices (Prov 9:13). However, believers have the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. God will lead them away from sin and into the paths of righteousness (1 Cor 10:13). Thus, they can advice others to walk the right path. It is apparent that godly wisdom is the means to life and success (Prov 3:9–12) while rejecting God leads to calamities.(Prov 10:27; 11:7). Whereas, the ungodly will draw others into the wrong path. Satan has capitalized the modern day media, portraying these as appealing and glamorous. Verse 27 is talking about the difference between the diligent and sluggard. The sluggard depicted might be so idle that they don't even cook the food they catch. Or, they're too lazy to seek out food, or prey, so they go hungry, as a result. Thus, either phrase, "to hunt" or "to roast" are possible translation of the word in question. In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul advised the church not to contribute to a person's laziness by including him in the church's welfare program. He said, "If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.”[2 Thess 3:10-11]. The diligent, most likely, would not suffer lack. Diligent people can still suffer losses either providentially like Job or by the unjust treatment of ungodly men in work. But, God has His reasons like what happened to Joseph.[Gen 50:20] In summary, Solomon concludes that righteous living has benefited the blessings of life. A man who evades an evil lifestyle may not escape from evil in this life totally. But, he would be much safer from it because of his prudence, discipline, and carefulness. Moreover, this may imply an eternal blessing of life. The righteous are those who trust Jesus. He is the resurrection and the life, and all who trust in Him as Savior will never experience eternal death (John 11:25–26). Paul affirms by saying, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
