“I love the intention of this podcast, but I was expecting a lot more depth. However for 20-minute episodes, I should have expected that it would just skim the surface. My favorite part is the "try this at home" segment. These are wonderfully simple and can be easily implemented into anyone's life and really make a difference. Brilliant idea! Besides that, I have three main issues with this podcast:
(1) it's unclear what information is research-based and what is opinion based on personal experience. Knowing this is important to me, as I will take personal opinion differently than something that is supported by science.
As an example, the satisficer vs. maximizer material in the first episode is based on research. But in the same segment in following episodes the information presented (e.g. marathoner vs. sprinter) is not based on research - it's simply Gretchen's experience! I'd appreciate a distinction between these two very different types of information.
(2) too much of this show is based on opinions and experiences of two people (the hosts). It's not particularly informative. This show could benefit from guests such as happiness experts presenting information or unique stories. Gathering information from just two individuals' personal experiences is limiting in scope.
(3) the happiness demerit idea is terrible! And they don't make sense. In one episode she gave herself a demerit because she bought a bag of chips and ate them in her car. Why is this a happiness demerit?? This segment is negative thinking, and it's poisonous thinking to people who listen to it. If you want a bag of chips, that's okay! If you don't want to be eating chips but you did, that's also okay! A happiness practice backed up by research is self-compassion (see Kristen Neff's research) and this show should be actively modeling happiness practices like that instead of obsessing over guilt and shame.”Read full review »

I've already been fairly successful implementing the one-minute rule and bedtime alarm clock, and so many of...”Read full review »
