John Fung, MD, PhD, the Chair of the Digestive Disease Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, discusses the ethical issues surrounding prisoners as organ donors and as organ transplantation recipients. Organ transplantation raises almost every important medical ethical issue, including: standards for determining death, informed consent, the fair allocation of scarce resources, research on human subjects, global health concerns, and more.
