“It’s really an inconsiderate comment to compare coal mining jobs - solely on the numbers of people employed alone - to Arby’s. Good paying jobs are few and far between in Appalachian coal mining areas and those coal jobs are some of the only jobs that pay well. Thus the reason for the strong desire to risk their safety and well-being to support their families. Efforts are underway to bring other industry/opportunities to these towns but that takes time. The only thing relative to Arby’s is that’s the type of low pay jobs left for people laid off from the mining industry. Being flippant about the numbers of people impacted isn’t helpful to solving these issues.”
