I picture Josh Lucas in the recording studio and pausing at every other line to ask, “and you’re sure this is right…?”. Only to be told that 2 fourteen year old girls were hired to write it and the only direction they were given was “Make it reeeal sophisticated… You know, like how grown ups...Read full review »

I love true crime and don’t like leaving bad reviews, BUT omg SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME. The writing was so brain-numbingly vapid, I couldn’t get through it without skipping the last episodes. It’s AI-cyborg-algorithm-filler meets knockoff 60 minutes. Skip this & go listen to ‘Stolen: Surviving...Read full review »

Had never heard of Bonny Lee or Robert Blake before listening to this podcast. I was truly hooked though!! Sad that a woman (or any one for that matter) could be so obsessed with being “famous” or married to a celebrity that they lose all sense of self and of reality. Spoiler alert *** I think...Read full review »

And the narration is like a thirties gangster movie

Brilliantly written, Josh Lucas and Tracy Pattin are well chosen as cast. The build up episodes to what came to paints a terribly captivating picture of tragedy and conspiracy.

Loved the podcast!!

The story is retold using actors. I thought they did a really good job. The story is a bit complex, but they kept it simple & easy to follow.

I had no idea about the facts herein. Much better than the tv programs about it. Also, I could feel sad for all involved...

The story is interesting and well written but I didn’t care for the voices of the narrators. They were too contrived to sound like hard reporters which I think was unnecessary.
Lj821 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/07/22
I appreciate the way that the story was told. Respectful of the victim and family, but still using partial re-enactments to keep the story moving along. Using recordings when available, and trial transcripts. Great job, as I’ve come to expect from wondery.

I listened to this all at once because I wanted to know what would happen. I liked the different voices and sound effects. I love Wonderly podcasts so I listen to several and wait on the free episodes to release. This one is worth the listen!

Tragic story about the two main characters. Sad that he was minding his own business and gets conned with a desperate ending. Sad that a baby was used to close the con. I felt for Bonnie whom was clearly lost in life and I felt that it’s so sad that the killer or killers got away with it. Well...Read full review »

I thought this was very well done. Dramatic enough to keep you wanting more but not overdone. Music, narration and effects all worked well. Highly recommended.

Great podcast, couldn’t stop listening. Love the two narratives. Really well done. One of the best.

Personally I like the format. I absolutely cannot stand many of the other podcasts that are simply reading off of google and the silly pointless chit chat. The content is tragic. Traumatized souls who just couldn’t seem to move beyond their own demons. Then they all cross paths. The perfect storm...Read full review »

This podcast was well done-entertaining, easy to binge, dealt with the story fairly. Highly recommend!

Ugh
Terrible, made up nonsense about some of the most disgusting people imaginable. The invented dialogue and ‘character’ voices are like a community theater’ s Agatha Christie.
Wisterley via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/22/22
Cannot believe I didn’t realise it was Josh Lucas until I came to write this. Of course it is! Brilliantly captivating. I just don’t understand how she managed to swindle so many men - she was well unfortunate looking.
Charli4187 via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 08/14/22
The recreations and narration are cheesy and over the top. Just the facts please - no need to make it into a 50s style shlock radio show.
clockmilk via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 08/11/22
Unfortunately the reviews are skewed by people who don’t understand the way to podcast works and therefore left irrelevant reviews. This story is well produced and sympathetic to the victim; something important when the victim in question was far from perfect herself. This is a study in how...Read full review »

A great true crime listen. Worth every minute.

Don’t waste your time. Rich + famous people basically have a license to commit any crime and get away without even an inconvenience in this country. Justice is for poor people.

I binged in one day. I left feeling a little sad for them both. Two very lost souls. I hope Rose is happy.

This was a sad case of over zealous cops. The LAPD has a long history of such behavior. Brando was already a killer, and the fact a civil case bankrupted the old man is a tragedy. Bonnie Lee was a con-woman, & Brando was in LA, had time, and more than enough opportunity. Civil trials are...Read full review »

I was really looking forward to this show but I couldn’t get past the first episode. Really dislike the dramatisations. I think they’re very cheesy and over the top. Shame, as I think the story is fascinating

I like a lot of Wondery podcasts but this one is a flop for me. Too drawn out, no momentum, and the creative license didn’t do it for me. Swing and a miss in my opinion.
RealHorrorShow via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/31/22
The dramatizations are too much. Cheesy and cringe voice acting that adds nothing to the story. Stopped after the first episode.
howiskatie via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/29/22
I feel bad that wondery is getting so much hate for a paywall. I know people don’t have a lot of money to throw around but companies are hurting too. If you don’t want the subscription, move on and listen to a different podcast…or wait for them to inevitably release the episode. It’s not that...Read full review »

Interesting story, but such a tedious retelling. Too much time on the dramatization.
spoonbaboon via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/28/22
Well done. It’s good to keep these legendary stories current, otherwise the facts fade and get distorted. Storytelling is still our best way to pass information through generations. Every murder story is a cautionary tale to be aware of. 👍

Mamy_10 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/27/22
First of all, anything with Tracy Pattin is awesome. That said, this is a well written, well constructed, historical murder mystery. I had forgotten all of the sorted details but this brought it back and did it well.
GolfDoc64 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/26/22
I’ve heard this story before, but appreciate it wasn’t just a recorded TV show. I didn’t like the audio recreations at first, but I get why it worked and grew to like it. It’s better than those pods that just provide TV audio.
MyJam_seattle via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/26/22
This was a good re-telling of the story. It was a tiny bit overly dramatic with the dialogue but I still recommend it.
Calientevaliente via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/26/22
I really enjoyed this podcast. Everything from the actors, narration & storytelling had me hooked from the first episode. You know when you are a bit sad after reading reading an amazing book? I felt that way after the last episode played out!
redmondsky via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 07/25/22
I learned a ton about this case.
Lennie4468 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/25/22
Plays like a “can’t put down” mystery book. The added voice over narratives round out the excellent quality of the production and the story. Would make for great movie. I think Bonny would have liked that. Really gives you the impression that you know who the real Bonny Lee Bakly, Robert Blake,...Read full review »

Also, lol, blood SPLATTER. “Splatter” is so much more vivid. They should call it blood splatter and not blood spatter. Splat.
kevindaniel via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/24/22
Wish it was more or a standard reporting style rather than dramatised. I usually like wondery podcast but this one missed the mark. Makes the story sound fake.

I’m chucking at all the whiny 😫 reviews AND boohoos 😢 about ADs ... Who Cares! Relax • Enjoy • Drift Off • CHILL! Who the hell is SO busy SO important you can’t stay still and listen to an AD or two or three? Loved Robert Blake as an actor! Great informative podcast-Thanks!

I enjoyed the first 6 episodes. Tried to listen to the final one but wondery is requiring me to join their site in order for me have access to it. I refuse to be forced to do this. I will not listen to anymore of wondery’s podcasts😡
