“Samin Nisrat deserves all the kudos she received when her book Salt Fat Acid Heat came out. (I own the book and love it.) Ditto for the TV food series, which showed her meeting and cooking with chefs in Italy.
This podcast, alas, has none of the sterling smarts and natural joy of either.
Samin and her cohost are ridiculously self-impressed by their own jokes, banter and commentary. Rather than feeling as though we have an insiders’ privilege to 2 foodies, it’s more like having noisy neighbors in a hotel: irksome and distracting. When Samin talks about “food” she’s terrific, but all the gushing and giggling exasperated me.
Or to paraphrase the great Dorothy Parker, “gentle listener twowed up.””
