Slow Death
A few years back that worked for a company down here in Southwest Florida. I will do two days. First day I drove with her supposedly tech. Unbelievable what I witnessed first need to take them to use blow on it and it went off. Then he made a pitch about how mold who’s the lower coil and how she would bring in this toxic air. He was there to do a cleaning check. He do everything but. That went on throughout the day same sales pitch different customers. The next day I drove with the ownersBrother. While I was inside discussing the solutions to the questions he was giving me The owner came in and told them he was low on refrigerant. He then asked if he wanted him to charge the unit to the correct pressures. Dealer said yes please I’m putting the house up for sale and I want to make sure that everything is working properly.Which was causing it to run a lot longer than it needed. His house was approximately 2300 ft.² under air and only had one return. And it was undersized as well. The brother returned and told him that he added 3 1/2 pounds of refrigerant to make the system run more efficiently. Then he started with his scare tactic sales pitches. 1. The leak was gonna get bigger n bigger and due to the higher pressures. Which causes the refrigerant to enter the air outside. If “THEY FIND OUT” you could be charged up to a $10,000.00 fine because it’s illegal to release that into the air. And when we find a system with your size of a leak we have to report it to prevent damaging the OZONE. 2. When you put the house up for sale they will see the leak. “THEY” make us register all tickets we write when we add refrigerant to a system because of a leak. This went on for 30 minutes. I couldn’t listen to any more of his BS. I acted as if I got a phone call. I said we have to leave immediately for a service call where a bunch of condensers got fried from a lightning strike. I knew this would work because in his head he would be thinking of the dollar signs for replacing a bunch of condensers. Turn around right away and walk out the house without even saying goodbye to the customer. I told The customer that he would be fine and I will call him when I have some free time but do not do anything until he hears from me. When I got into the truck I asked Robert did you really put 3 1/2 pounds in his system. He said yeah maybe not 3 1/2 foot is a pretty good size leak. He was lying straight to my face. We didn’t have any R22 in our truck. I had him drop me off at the shop. I told him I made the fried condenser Story up. He wasn’t happy but I told him I couldn’t listen to anymore of that BS he was telling that customer. When we got back to the shop I told him I quit and I called his sister and told her the same. I know this goes on everywhere. Maybe not to that extent and I’m sure worse in other areas but it’s a shame that the reputation of the service tech getting put in the same category of “a used car salesman”. I really enjoy your on line school. I am learning more and more every time I read them. Thanks

I am a new Mechanical engineer working in consulting engineering (non residential). The applicable thermodynamics has helped my ability to troubleshoot problems in the field. Very well done.

I have only listened to a couple so far and they have been great. I love the comical openings and, of course, the content. I like how Bryan keeps it fun as well as judgement free.
