A poor parishioner of Mr. Beddome was entrusted with the care of the gentleman’s horse during the meeting. As he waited, he found out the reason that the Londoner had come calling. IN THIS EPISODE: "Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty" by Reginald Heber (1783-1826)
"I have never seen such tenderness, never such humble exercise of Christian love. Alas! How his spirit shames us all! I thank God that I have seen his tears, that I heard his prayers, his conversation with the afflicted mother, and his own private reflections upon it. It has made me love him more, and has given me a lesson of tenderness, in visiting the afflicted, that I trust will not be in vain.”

IN THIS EPISODE: "Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken" by Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847)
How did the young woman act during the storm? With simple modesty; she was patient but firm. She bore the storm that was without by the blessed peace that was within. She was still loving and more obedient than ever, except on this one point. She would not forsake Christ. Having tasted the better portion, she would not give it up. She went after Christ, denied herself, and took up her cross to follow Him; then...

Jonathan Edwards wrote, “Be always greatly abased for your remaining sin, and never think that you lie low enough for it, but yet don’t be at all discouraged or disheartened by it; for though we are exceedingly sinful, yet we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, the preciousness of whose blood, and the merit of whose righteousness and the greatness of whose love and faithfulness does...

IN THIS EPISODE: "He Leadeth Me! O Blessed Thought" by Joseph Henry Gilmore (1834-1918)
Joseph set out to give the congregation an exposition of the Twenty-third Psalm. He emphasized the blessedness of being led by God—of the mere fact of His leadership—altogether apart from the way in which He leads us, and what He is leading us to. After the meeting, he wrote a hymn that landed squarely on the phrase, “He leadeth me beside the still waters.”
