Disappointed
I really wanted to love this. To be honest, I did love most of the first season of the podcast. Season 2 was a little shakey and I feel like it derailed after all the hosts returned after the Christmas break and coincidentally all had covid. I made it to S2-E14 "it should have been Lorelai" and then had to call it quits. (Sidenote: there are some reviews that say season 3 got a lot better, and I will eventually find the energy to skip to those, but I need a break. See why below). The good: 1. I love the guest interviews, those are always so entertaining and it's amazing to hear from a breadth of people (Stars Hallow citizens, returning stars, extra, crew, and some of the production team). 2. They have fans come on!!! It's always so special to meet members of the GG fan family and hear their questions, ideas, memories, and commentary! 3. There is usually an attempted Pop Culture section and it's interesting to learn the origins of some reference that were unknown to me. 4. Clearly everyone hosting is passionate about the show and wants to talk about it... The bad: 1. The constant beratement of Riley and exclusion of both Riley and Danielle in the conversations. I would love for Riley to be able to get through her Pop Culture reference AND research just ONE time without being cut off, corrected, interjected, distracted, or upheaved. Amy said she would get better and not interjecting and there hasn't been much evidence of that, and while some of Scott's silly comments or outbursts are funny, it's very annoying to be interrupted multiple times. Please let her just do her speech and THEN everyone can discuss to their hearts' content. Also, when correcting pronunciation or pointing out something funny someone said, there is a way to do it lovingly and "laughing with them", vs bullying and "laughing at them". It's really off putting to constantly hear Riley being put down and picked on. I heard she did leave someone has been added. I'm not shocked. 2. Scott sometimes goes off on a tangent or different topic. This is fine. Everyone does it. But then we get stories and heated arguments that are far from the original GG content and it's very hard to remember what was being discussed or move forward. It also seems like he's been very negative and disengaged through season 2. I would rather have a break or pause in the release schedule than listen to someone obviously be uninterested in the show. Scott, we get it, it's a lot of work. I'd rather wait to listen to you have a real discussion or fair argument than listen to someone who is clearly disengaged and goofing off. 3. It seems like everyone lost control after having covid as the few episodes after returning were especially annoying to listen to. It seems like everyone is just talking over each other, being silly or dumb without cause, purposely going off topic, and being rude to each other (Scott and Amy). 4. There isn't a good flow. It seems like when Scott is disagreed with, he wants to keep the conversation on that topic so that he can repeatedly repeat his point ("it's repetitive and redundant..."), and when Amy is disagreed with she shuts the conversation down and changes topics. Also, speaking of flow/structure: if in every episode you go over the time in the discussion, maybe a new format can be considered so there are two parts for every GG episode: the guest interview and then the discussion. 5. The advertisements. I'm sure the show can't decide which are used or exactly where they're placed, but the same 4 ads play on repeat each episode and something about them always makes me unnerved. I feel like I have to be ready to skip them each time. And some of the breaks are 3-4 minutes of straight ads. Perhaps iHeartRadio can negotiate a different sponsorship or require shorter ads. Along with the faults of the show, this played heavily into not wanting to listen. ...we will see if I update this eventually.Read full review »
