“The story is pretty straightforward and could have been told in 6-8 episodes.
I’m afraid to say the victim, JC McGhee, the host’s father, doesn’t get much sympathy from me. A father of 6 children with 4 different women, he was also a drug dealer, an addict, a police informant and a brothel owner who was deeply entrenched in the criminal underworld of his part of West Virginian.
At one point the narrator says “There are no perfect victims” but there are innocent ones. I’d rather listen to a crime podcast that solves the murder of an innocent victim than one who “lived by the sword and died by the sword” (This “bias” may also explain why police didn’t do much to solve McGhee’s murder either.)”
