Apiradee Kasemsook is an assistant professor at Silpakorn University. Nuttinee Karnchanaporn is a senior lecturer at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT). Both are visiting lecturers at Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, and many architectural institutions in Thailand and abroad. Api received her doctorate in Architecture from the Bartlett, UCL, and specialises in spatial morphology, particularly Space Syntax. Nuttinee received her doctorate in Histories and Theories from Architectural Association School of Architecture. Both have been collaborated for a number of projects, academically and professionally. They published a paper together, titled, ‘World-class living’ (2008, in World Cities, eds. by Jenck et al.) They were co-curators for Thailand Pavilion, for the 12th International Architecture Exhibition, Venice Biennale, 2010. The also participated as an artistic team and conducted a workshop with students from Silpakorn University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, for Art on Farm, 2010, organised by Jim Thomson Art Foundation. ‘On/Above Ground’ is an architecture-cum-urban design studio running by Api at Silpakorn University which focuses on the dialectic of domestic and public space uses. The studio principally investigates the interfaces between the domestic and the public on the ground level that will shape and re-shape the configuration of the buildings and urban areas for the future development of Bangkok. ‘Rethinking Bangkok Domesticity,’ a studio which investigates and provides cultural readings for the lived and ideal home through the use of film techniques, is co-organised by Nuttinee at KMUTT. The studio can be a critique on the existing (as lived and as advertised) domestic morphologies both housing/working/typology including spatial, experimental and perceptive qualities of the place.
