Strong Narrative Limits Credibility
This podcast is good and bad. It has a strong narrative and is extremely biased. I expect better from NPR. There are some pretty unrealistic expectations around how crimes are investigated (only absolutes and perfect scenarios) and how the judicial system should work. Naive perspectives...and everything is personalized (i.e. they’re out to get us which is why x happened). However, there are compelling pieces of information uncovered that should be addressed by the DA or other legal authority. For example, the gun turned over to police that went missing and frequently striking black jurors. I think it’s unfair that this case is portrayed as racially divided and it creates unnecessary tension. Both black and white people were murdered. Both black and white people testified against Curtis. Both black and white jurors found him guilty. Both black and white people in the community think he’s guilty. Bottom line is that this podcast has compelling investigative journalism but limited its potential for influence by being clearly biased and creating a narrative.

I am seriously looking forward to listening to this. Crazy how it is coming out in a few days, when they found his remains today. As a Minnesotan I have always kept tabs on this case. My heart aches for the Wetterling family. May Jacob rest in peace.
