Important yet naïve
Scahill and his cohort are dogged journalists and brilliant presenters. The issue is their worldview is rooted in anachronistic socialist intellectualism that's been irrelevant for decades. It's like a cutting edge show from 1930 about 2020. I really want to love it, but it's so silly. And this is not a small thing. "Socialism" based on labour movement philosophies that reject capitalism rather than advocate for its evolution, are fundamentally privileged and white. It's the same foolish meandering we see from people like Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn – they're incapable of perceiving their own innate white supremacist views because they advocate for class struggle instead of intersectional solidarity.
