Instead of investigating the criminal’s psychology, the narration is highly moralizing (e.g., words like “shocking” and “despicable”), which perpetuates the myth of the murderer as pure evil. A good series should not just shock us but attempt to grasp the subject’s inner motivations, however distorted they may appear to us.”
