The international community should act now to prevent widespread famine from taking hold in Sudan, the head of the UN humanitarian affairs office in the country said on Monday. Justin Brady was speaking just days after experts confirmed famine was present in parts of North Darfur state following more than a year of war between the Sudanese Army and rival military, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He told UN News’s Khaled Mohammed that although humanitarians are doing their best to support vulnerable people, “we need the resources, political leverage, and advocacy to make the parties come to the table and end this war.”
