"I'm ready to simplify my art business and find my flow state." - Christie Owen E77

"I'm ready to simplify my art business and find my flow state." - Christie Owen E77

Ep77 – Christie Owen is an abstract artist and designer from Oklahoma. Her work can be described as earthy and tranquil, with a focus on finding beauty in the imperfections. I’ve known Christie for several years, and we have experienced many of the ups and downs of being artists and entrepreneurs together.
Currently recovering from burnout, Christie is switching gears and trying new things. With the goal in mind of finding her flow state once again, she is allowing herself more time to play with different mediums, changing surface textures and not overthinking the desired outcome.
While change isn’t always easy, Christie is determined to simplify her life and reconnect with the joy of creating. She is committed to exploring new ways to bring in enough income with her art business to put her daughter through college while also continuing her job as a designer.
Listen in as we talk through balancing both life and business.

"How I went from skeptic to successful mural business owner." - Andrea Erhardt E76

"How I went from skeptic to successful mural business owner." - Andrea Erhardt E76

Ep76 – Andrea Erhardt is a muralist and art business coach from Springfield, Missouri. Andrea had always been interested in creating art for a living, but she never really thought it was possible.
After graduating with a degree in general business and painting, Andrea started a promotional business with a few friends that did very well, but her heart kept coming back to painting. She took a position as logo painter with Bass Pro Shops corporate, and traveled around the country painting logos for new store locations.
Eventually Andrea grew tired of always being away from home and decided to focus on growing her mural business back home. She did so by focusing on painting murals in public spaces in the early stages of her business career. As Andrea became more successful, she realized that she could provide valuable insight and assistance to other artists wanting to start their own mural business.
Listen in to learn more about Andrea’s journey from entrepreneur to artist and how she grew a thriving mural business.

"How can I grow my mural business when I'm a beginner?" - Deborah Downey E75

"How can I grow my mural business when I'm a beginner?" - Deborah Downey E75

Ep75 – Debbie Downey is a professional face painter and balloon twister who has recently moved into doing murals. Debbie has been creating murals for children’s spaces and small businesses, so thus far her art has been more about who she’s making it for than about the art itself.
Debbie says she is still taking whatever comes her way but would love to have the financial freedom to turn jobs down if they don’t feel aligned with her vision. Right now, she is working toward making more money per commissioned mural as well as getting away from working nights and weekends. Debbie wants to know how to find more of her ideal clients in a short timeframe so that she can make more money with her art.
Listen in as I teach Debbie how to reach out to create new clients and grow her mural business.

"As a hobby artist, how do I attract buyers to increase sales?" - Kristine Hurd E74

"As a hobby artist, how do I attract buyers to increase sales?" - Kristine Hurd E74

Ep74 – Kristine Hurd is a mixed media artist from Saskatchewan who works with alcohol ink and enjoys fluid experimenting. She works full time outside of the home and paints for fun in her spare time. Kristine isn’t looking to turn her art into a full-time income, but she knows she must sell it to continue to do the thing that she loves. Being a very prolific painter, she faces the challenges of limited space and the cost of purchasing supplies.
Even though Kristine has a marketing degree, as an artist, she feels social media can be all-consuming. Because she paints for herself, Kristine feels that there isn’t really a story behind her art. Not knowing the story behind her art keeps Kristine from being able to identify who her target audience is. This makes it more challenging and tedious to come up with content for social media.
Listen in to learn what Kristine is missing and the advice I give her on finding and connecting with her ideal art buyer.

"What's the best way to generate more income from my artwork?" - Samantha Groom E73

"What's the best way to generate more income from my artwork?" - Samantha Groom E73

Ep73 – Sam Groom is a printmaker and collage artist from the UK. She creates relief prints and sculptural artworks that are bold, colorful and joyful.
Sam has been successful at selling her artwork thus far, but she is trying to figure out the best way to generate more income. Most of her sales come from live events, but she also sells in local stores, through her website and on social platforms. She would like to be selling more online by increasing her presence there to draw a larger audience for her work. Should she raise her prices, focus more on her originals, or something else?
Sam spends a significant amount of time on her originals, which are her passion projects, and would really like to be making more for her time and skill. However, she is a bit risk averse about going bigger, being bolder and increasing her prices significantly.
Listen in as I coach Sam on where she should increase her prices and other strategies she can use to get her art in front of more people.

"How will I know when to take my ideas from exploration to the execution phase?" - Nikkita Cohoon E72

"How will I know when to take my ideas from exploration to the execution phase?" - Nikkita Cohoon E72

Ep72 – Nikkita Cohoon is a designer and multimedia artist who makes vibrant artwork with lots of mark making that feels like a chatty conversation. She started her own brand design business in 2013, which she has loved doing, but is now working full-time in a position that allows her to use more of her creative inspiration for her own work. Nikkita is passionate about creating rituals in life, not just following a routine, and through her classes and workshops she focuses on helping other artists do the same.
Nikkita believes in being in tune with the seasons of your body and mind and not pushing yourself to stay busy when you need to rest and settle. Being a firm believer in staying grounded through rituals, Nikkita focuses on actions that are aligned with her current state and feel good for her. Lately, she has been in a resting or “wintering” phase, exploring the inspired ideas she has collected for several months, looking for little nudges that will help her decide when to take action on her evolving ideas.
Listen in as Nikkita and I talk through what she’s exploring and how to recognize when to execute her ideas.
