“It is a great review of fall of Ottoman Empire .i love history & have read a lot about it before. Brother Muttaqi does an excellent job of review of this unfortunate part of ottoman history.in one of the Q&A sessions it was asked about how crescent & star became an Islamic symbol?
According to my reading the crescent & star was originally on the flag of Byzantine empire.
Once Ottoman defeated the Byzantine & took over Constantinople they felt that since they are now the inheritors of Byzantine Empire they have a right to adopt their flag’s crescent & star symbol as well.
This is how it became an Islamic symbol.
It also shows the openness & flexibility of Ottoman mind in adopting the symbol of other cultures though it was a defeated culture.
The dome of the Byzantine churches was also incorporated into Islamic architecture to become the dome of the mosques.”
