Meacham’s musings are so well done, setting the context so well for each speech. He’s just right, just the right amount of detail, just the right tone. Knowledgeable without a trace of lecturing. As in his books, a wonderful storyteller.
I am old enough to have lived when MLK and RFK — the first two up in the series — were giving these speeches, and not only are the facts correct, but the mood Meacham sets is right.
There is a different speech RFK made the morning after Dr. King’s death. Perhaps his best speech. Thoughtful remarks on the political violence in America. It is passionate but quiet, deeply thoughtful, and unlike any remarks you would hear today.”
