Good Concept, Lackluster Execution
I listen to this podcast a fair bit, but it’s incredibly frustrating because of the hosts’ shoddy research. They often delve into obscure alien related conspiracies and are one of the few skeptical sources to cover and debunk said theories so they should be commended for that. However, their research is incredibly lacking. None of their episodes can be described as “deep dives” into their topics due to shallow research and incorrect information. Anytime they touch on a historical subject that I’m somewhat familiar with, I notice multiple errors. For example, in their Bermuda Triangle Episode they state Flight 19 was 2 aircraft that went missing (it was 5) and that a “boat” went missing looking for the aircraft (it was a flying boat, i.e. a seaplane). To their credit, they later mention Flight 19 as being 5 aircraft, though without acknowledging the initial mistake. So that particular error was probably a host misspeaking rather than a result of poor research, however it’s not an isolated mistake. They state 2 of the USS Cyclops’s sister ships sank because of “structural failure issues” and “we know why they sank” ergo the Cyclops probably foundered for the same reason. While structural failure due to overloading is a leading theory for all 3 disappearances, no wreckage for any of the ships has ever been found and what ultimately caused them to founder remains unknown. This is not just a case of them screwing up in one episode. Tristan, “the host who knows everything”, will often get historical facts wrong or gloss over important details. When they continually screw up basic historical background (like saying Werner von Braun became “head of NASA” after WWII) it makes it harder to believe they know what they’re talking about when they get into the actual debunking part. If a conspiracy theorist made these same glaring mistakes, that would be valid reason to doubt their credibility because they obviously haven’t done more than cursory research. I’m not saying aliens have ever visited Earth, just that some of the details the hosts provide while debunking this stuff is likely wrong as well. Other miscellaneous negative aspects include their often overly long and rambling intro segments and (this one is admittedly a cheap shot) but both host are pretty fond of, for lack of a better term, insufferable Twitter person humor. Lastly this is a formatting preference, but having one host who does the research and one who goes in blind is somewhat annoying. Scott can’t really comment intelligently on anything Tristan says because he hasn’t read up on it. Scott just riffs on the info Tristan presents, rather than being able to riff on it and discuss it in a meaningful way Finally the positives, Scott and Tristan have decent chemistry and banter. Tristan presents his info in a breezy style which is entertaining when he’s right. Scott’s riffs on it can be pretty funny. Also as a fellow Scooby fan, he knows his stuff when it comes to Scooby Doo lore so I appreciate that.

What a delightful weekly dive into disproving Ancient Aliens theories wrong! I just watched the corresponding video about the Eternals on Scott’s channel, and I must say it provide a much needed laugh after a long day. Keep up the good work guys!

This is the best podcast and I’m glad that Tristan and Scott (the best YouTubers) are teaching us how cool these ancient civilizations are and how horrible Ancient Aliens theories are. I hope we get an episode about the end times.
