There's much to discover and discuss when it comes to brains but understanding how brains work is fundamental to ensuring we live our best lives possible. I'm not sure exactly how any episodes there are going to be about the brain,...

In 2013 my parent’s house burnt down and we lost everything. Even though I was living in New Zealand, before I moved, I stored everything I owned in their attic. So 30+ years of stuff, was now all gone. Despite the initial tragedy, and thankfully all my family was fine; however there was an unexpected positive outcome from it. Losing all my stuff meant I came to realise that stuff doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t define us, it doesn’t make us a better person. Sure it was devastating to...

It’s time to talk about death. Not because I’m I’m dying (well, we all are really) but because it’s unavoidable. There is no escape from death’s clutches, and by not talking about death, we’re missing opportunities, to ensure we live our best life possible. This episode all started because of an app that helpfully reminds me five times a day, that I’m going to die. The impact of this has been bigger than I imagined. I also chat to Margot, a freelance writer from Georgia, USA who along with...

In Jade Talks Water, hear about some of the scary ways that water is being stolen, and the impact of an event last century is only being realised now, and it could lead to the start of global water wars. In most modern cities, we don’t think twice about turning on a tap, and having 24 hour access to water, but how many think about where it comes from or how much there is in storage. As climate change modifies our rainfall patterns, it’s no longer a luxury to presume water will always be there...

In the first episode of my new podcast Jade Talks Stuff, I talk sharks. It’s time to overcome our hysteria and unsubstantiated fear of sharks, and instead show them the protection that is deserved and needed. Just because they don’t have the cute and cuddly factor (although anyone who’s ever seen a zebra shark or a tawny nurse shark might agree they fit that category). Every year sharks are slautered in the millions for their fins alone, and their numbers are being decimated. Contrary to...
