What is this

As an American, I realize I may be missing something about who this guy is, but I’m not really sure what’s going on. Was this guy a famous comedian who had an accident or something? He refers to having some kind of a breakdown but I don’t see anything online about it, other than bombing at some big performance. Maybe it’s a subtle humor, but I can’t tell what the joke is: that 2016 is not the best year in music (it’s quite a claim, and a bizarre one considering in the trailer he admits to not having listened to new music for about a decade.) I guess this is the joke? Seems like a strange premise for an entire series?

I listened to and enjoyed his conversation with Collin from Radiohead. But nothing about this guy makes a lot of sense. I mean, who had a former career as a musician and hadn’t heard Radiohead before 2016?? I guess this guy really commits to a joke or something, but I think I’m missing something.

What is this.
