“Surely the American speaking in favor of Palestinian human rights would like to think they’d have spoken up during any other colonialist atrocity you mentioned or civil rights abuse had they been alive and able at the time, or did in fact participate in protests that were despised in their time, now lauded.
What’s hypocritical is advocating for human rights up and until there are true consequences for your conscience. I do not judge those who remain silent for their own safety, though silence buys safety for the briefest of periods.
Income is a form of safety and there are powerful people in certain industries, such as entertainment, who are likely to impose a cost for doing the right thing and calling for Israel to be held accountable to the international community for PRESENT DAY apartheid and genocide. In the USA, our leaders know our national/international security/espionage functions are so intertwined with Israel that the cost of doing what’s right will be high, but again only briefly and IF NOT NOW, WHEN?”
