Not what it was but still worth a listen.
The podcast used to be an in-depth discussion about films. Over time it has morphed into more of a film social club, centred around listeners film reviews, and in-jokes. Listener reviews almost always have a political element to them and given it’s the BBC you can imagine what views are deemed acceptable to air. Now, none of this necessarily makes this a worse podcast. Depends what you want from a film podcast, personally I’m not interested in listener reviews, I’m just interested in Mark Kermode’s reviews and judging film as an art form. Would be interesting to add another respected critic, if they wish to widen out the discussion rather than endless listeners reviews. To be fair to Kermode, given his well known political stance, he does a pretty good job of judging films objectively on their artistic merit.

More reviews of Kermode and Mayo's Film Review
Mark Kermode does a fantastic job reviewing these films. Every week on Friday or Saturday night after listening to his reviews I need to update my netflix queue. This is the first podcast that I listen to after updating my podcasts.

The most entertaining podcast there is, Mark's passion about films is often more entertaining than the movies he is reviewing.Read full review »

This is the podcast that I look forward to every week. I'm just not sure why you'd want two versions of it...surely anyone worth their while would always go for the longer version. Genius...pure Kermodian wit. And Simon's great too.Read full review »
