Healthy fats+narcolepsy diet
Hi Jessica, I am a young Vietnamese female, 25. I am listening to your podcast from Vietnam, way too far from you. Really appreciated all the insights and wonderful advice that you have shared throughout your episodes. You are so knowledgable and sweet! You and your husband make an awesome team. Please keep up the good work!!! I am quite behind on all your latest episodes because I have just started my Keto journey about 6 weeks ago so I am picking and choosing from your old episodes. I have noticed such a big difference in my mental clarity, less brain fog and less sleepy( I think I might have narcolepsy but I don’t know for sure since no hospital in Vietnam can diagnose it successfully, but I seem to have all the symptoms), weight decrease and less sugar cravings. Reducing my daytime sleepiness is my main goal. That is the whole reason why I started this diet( now I know it is a lifestyle) but I think I might just stick with it for a long time because of its overall health benefits. Anyway, I have 2 questions. First is about healthy fats. I was listening to Episode 62 about bad and good fats. It is very helpful. Thank you. For my whole life my families have been using vegetable oil for everything because it is cheap. However, if I still cannot afford grass-fed animal fats and grass-fed animal products, which kind of fat should I be choosing (between grain-fed animal fats and vegetable oils)? Which one is less harmful? Also,my mom always stock up the chicken and pork fat from our soups, or frying the raw fats, then keep it in our fridge to use? Is this healthy? How long can these fats be good to use after stocking up? I am trying to get fat by coconut oil but even then it is quite expensive. In addition, if eating grain-fed animal meat is my case, then would it be better for me to getting enough protein by decreasing my intake on those types of meats( beef, pork and chicken mostly)and substitute the meat with protein supplements(protein powder and pills), seafood and seeds(almonds and peanuts) ? What is your opinion on that? What else can I substitute to get my protein intake? My second question relates to my macro intake for narcoleptic. I remember on episode 28 you mention your thoughts on keeping the total carb intake(instead of the met carb intake) from 20-30 grams/day for narcoleptics. However, you have not mention about the amount of protein one should take. I know you are not a narcolepsy expert but do you have any opinion on that? Thank you, thank you so much for all that you are doing and I hope to hear from you soon. Sorry for the long email. Sending much love from Vietnam. Bests, Kitten
