How To Handle The Social & Family Impact Of Transitioning To A Plant-Based Diet
Listen now
Description
IN THIS EPISODE: Eating food and the events that surround eating food can be very emotional. As a child, my mom cooked warm meals for me all the time. Of course it tastes great and feels great to eat, but I see now more than ever how satisfying it is for the parent to know that their child is eating a nourishing, satisfying meal. When my family decided to adopt a plant-based lifestyle, it was a tough transition for both sides of our extended family. It seemed to happen in phases. First came questions of clarity on what we were not “allowed” to eat. Then came the question of why, which was shortly followed by frustration, anger, sadness, and a bunch of other emotions. Did this mean that family dinners at our house were cancelled? How would we eat out at a restaurant together? Can our family give our kids a cookie if they want it? What about Grandma’s special treat jar? These and many other questions are all valid and must be addressed one by one with your family.
