“This podcast was truly interesting as Dr. Boore-Clor goes into depth about the sub specialty of geriatric psychiatry. This podcast is catered for students and trainees. People who also find these things interesting and just enjoy would find this video very entertaining as well. Dr.Boore is very clear about the topics covered in this podcast and gives stories about her different patients to further explain and give a better understanding to them. The information presented is extremely reliable as it’s covered by an official Dr of the respected science at hand. The information is up to date and credible as it was tested and analyzed with real people and data. One of the five things I learned is that Dr.Boore speaks on they would use medicine usually treated for children and find that it works really well on older people with completely different diseases or other mental illnesses. She says also says that by 2030 about 20% of the population will be over 60. She says that she didn’t know a man had dementia or depression. The way to find the difference is asking a lot of questions. A person with dementia will actually try to answer these questions while a person with depression won’t answer not because they can’t but they seem like it’s too much work. Start love, go slow, and don’t stop. People who are older have different metabolisms and different neuron load. Starting doses for patients is really important since you would have to generally give a smaller dose to older people since they can’t take as much as younger people. You don’t have to be afraid of giving medication to older people just the amount given. They use test that’ll be able to open up a persons brain and find what’s wrong with them to more thoroughly go about treating a patient. The podcast is really interesting since it speaks hard on how to take care of an older person in the geriatric world. “Geriatric Depression : A Clinical Guide” this book explains “WHY” depression can be challenging to treat in older adults and describes the most effective interventions. I chose this because listening to podcast they really speak on everything that they try to do for their patients, it’s not just sending your grandparents to a nursing home where they rot but they actually try to help them with their new or old mental illnesses. “Interventions to reduce ageism against older adults : A systematic review and meta analysis”, people would think that just because someone’s old they won’t be able to perform certain tasks and there’s stereotypes that you can go into about it. But this is goes into different things they use to reduce the thought of that and shows analysis and data on that as well. “Behavior management in caring for patients with Alzheimer’s disease”, this gives real life scenarios of patients with this disease and demonstrates practical ways of dealing with difficult behaviors such as wandering, angry outbursts, and delusions. As Dr.Boore was saying it isn’t necessarily easy dealing with patients that have these diseases and this shows how difficult it is to do that but also ways to deal with it. “Secrets to Centenarians”, centenarians is what they call successful aging people who’s lived well passed 100 years of age. Researchers go in and explain their longevity and their studies show that everyone has the potential to do so depending on their conditions. This ties into the older people topic that Dr.Boore talks about throughout the podcast. “Handbook of geriatric assessment”, this gives a contemporary approach with patient and family centered care. To give the latest information on geriatric assessments for older adults.”
